Lessons from the past
The-West is constantly evolving, and the developers are continually seeking ways to enhance the player's experience, but don't seem to know where to focus their attention. One possible source of inspiration is the Classic West server, which has been running for approximately three weeks and features many InnoGames staff amongst the 900-strong player-base. This temporary server presents a unique opportunity to analyse aspects that contribute to player engagement and satisfaction. In particular, we will explore how meaningful quest rewards, PvP as a viable source of progression, the significance of in-game currency, and the importance of skill point allocation can improve the overall gaming experience.

Meaningful Quest Rewards
In the Classic West server, quests provide players with meaningful rewards, offering a stark contrast to version 2. Meaningful rewards incentivise players to actively participate in quests and advance quicker than by jobbing alone. By incorporating engaging narratives, level-appropriate tasks, and providing valuable rewards such as meaningful experience points, useful items, or relatively valuable skill points, developers can enhance player motivation to actually do the new quests that are being added to the game.

The Importance of PvP
In the Classic West server, PvP serves as a significant source of both experience points and in-game currency. This design choice creates an environment where engaging in player-versus-player combat is not only thrilling but also rewarding. By reintroducing the importance of PvP in the modern version, InnoGames can revive the excitement and competitiveness that comes with testing one's skills against other players, fostering a dynamic and engaging multiplayer experience. Always remember - the other players are the primary content in a Role Playing game.

Relevance of In-Game Currency
Classic West's emphasis on the significance of every donated dollar to town funds provides a sense of communal progress and genuine impact. This concept can be translated into V2 by integrating meaningful economic systems. By offering players opportunities to contribute to the development of the virtual world, developers can instill a sense of purpose and accomplishment, allowing players to actively shape the game environment and feel a sense of ownership. Ideas including; Fort battle degradation after battles, customisable town layouts, re-rolling town shops, bank robbing another town's funds, and alliance buildings have been floated in the past, and could provide inspiration for the basis of an economic system.

Skill Point Allocation as a Strategic Element
In the Classic West server, skill point allocation plays a vital role in shaping a player's gameplay style. Unlike in V2, players cannot simply change clothes and master every job at a relatively low level. This design encourages strategic decision-making and specialisation, creating a sense of uniqueness and diversity among players. There are many duelling builds to choose, there are many working builds to try out, and each has its own benefits both individually and to your town. Developers can learn from this approach by implementing skill systems that require thoughtful allocation and customisation, providing players with a sense of agency and personalisation once again. Suggestions such as increasing the number of skill and attribute points players are awarded per level may provide a solution to this aspect in the modern West, however almost every system would need to be updated to accommodate such power-creep.

Conclusion
The Classic West server serves as a valuable case study for anyone looking to enhance the modern game experience. By offering meaningful quest rewards, reintroducing the importance of PvP, emphasizing the relevance of in-game currency, and highlighting the strategic element of skill point allocation, developers can create immersive and engaging gameplay environments. By incorporating these lessons, future updates can foster player motivation, diversity, and a sense of accomplishment, ultimately providing players with more fulfilling and rewarding experiences.

not really convinced that the classic west people are rushing to do pvp.
Looking at the rankings, as of this post, there are 900 players registered and 77 of them have taken part in at least one duel. That is less than 10% of the players. It doesn't show how many of those were challenged or challengers, so some of those may have been victims.

There are 376 people that joined and never made it to level 2, so the player base isn't really the 900 registered. A little over half the registered players have made it to level 3, so I guess that could be a good count to compare to the 77 to Still 77 out of 450 isn't that impressive a number to say that pvp is important to the players there.

The duration has been a big factor there.
1 month isn't really enough to be "ready" in Classic version.

A lot are just rushing for levels and then a lot has been Builders/Money collectors.

Hopefully with the extension, more will join Towns and play their part.

Only about 175 players have joined towns so far, the majority of them being solo lower levels who founded a town as soon as they collected $300.

It's very early days for a Classic world. Residences space is the big limiting factor, but so far there's 106 players in 6 major towns.
Just those 6 towns have completed 1,442 offensive duels + 123 from TRISTAN + ~200 from Shadow City in less than a month - with just 175 players in towns.

164 have, so far, reached level 20, which is a massive time investment - and a more active player-base than most 2.0 worlds can offer.

Dank town is a duelling town, but we still have builders and cash-collectors in town who have no interest in duelling, and these players aren't any less important to us.

I'll take the point that the player-base isn't 900 strong, but it did reach 900 signups today, players are still joining a month into a month long server (which just got extended!)
In any case, my point was more about how the PvP is better, more meaningful and more fun than in the modern game. Not that everyone must PvP.

Ill ask once more kinda off main theme. Do you think the "forgotten" sets are ever gonna get lvl scaling/some additional bonuses like murrieta got for example too? Munny,Jeremiah,Elfego,Eaton,Mcjunkin,Fisher? They got kinda skipped back then and if anything it doesnt look great having some sets which provide +15 on lvl 180 for example and you can open them from drops along others/or even get them from tombolas too. And even if they would got 0,2 treatment still atleast it would be atleast "complete".

There are also Classes items that are still to be updated, like Worker shoes , Soldiers Neck item ( I am referring to Classes quest items )

best would be to rework (update or buff) old sets from 2012-2017 and put them to the UP shop for bonds & nuggets & dollars, like on xmas (or just create a new chest, for example "2014 Sets chest" that would include every event set from 2014 and upon opening, you would get one of those sets randomly)

better yet.. spend the extremely limited Dev time to the things that actually crucial to the game instead of spending months to change some sets to mediocre from trash.

like making Leveling up actually possible (via various ways) in this mad level 250 meta..

meanwhile actually fixing PvP, instead of applying band-aids to the decade old issues.

here's hoping they got some right ideas from the Classic World..

This is actually something really important that is completely missing from the game. If you are a new player joining an older server, or if you have taken a long break from the game and are coming back - there's not an easy way to get relevant gear for PvP.
You're all probably tired of hearing it by now, but in Classic, that didn't matter because everyone had the same access to the same gear from the same shops at all times. Tombolas and limited sales being the only sources of PvP gear are probably the biggest things that ruined The West.

And I don't understand why they haven't added this as an additional revenue stream already.
